　　旧西藏经济十分落后，交通闭塞，没有现代工业，只有牧业和少量农业、手工业。自1959年民主改革后，特别是1978年改革开放以来，经过多年的努力，西藏的经济体制格局发生了重大变化，一个健康发展，充满生机的社会主义市场经济体系正在形成，西藏各项事业取得了巨大成就，经济实力明显增强，经济建设的步伐也大大加快，不仅建立了现代工业、交通、通信业，原有的农牧业、商业也有了长足的发展。
