　　One difficulty had been tackled， but another one soon came along. Not long before， the water treatment station failed to pass UN water quahty tests. Water quality is closely related to the health of the peacekeepers. Ao Chunlai confined himself to the water treatment station until he finally discovered the problem in design and installation. He changed the installation position of a water treatment device， and the amount of the purifying chemicals， thus resolving the problem. As a result， the water treatment station passed all the ensuing five UN tests.　　To ensure the water quality， the sedimentation tank and the pure water tank had to be cleaned regularly. A thick layer of malodorous dirty silt would settle at the bottom of the sedimentation tank after short intervals. Ao Chunlai was always the first to jump into the tank to do a thorough cleaning and disinfection. All the silt would be carried out manuaUy in buckets from the suffocating foul tank， so each cleaning required robust work. The pure water tank had to be set up at the highest point of the base according to water supply requirements， but this would easily make it a target for gunfire by terrorists. Ao directed his colleagues to build one- meter-thick sandbag walls around the tank as "bulletproof clothing." UN inspectors were impressed by these precautionary measures when they saw them.
