　　2.Stationers'Company（英国出版同业公会）：全称是Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers，成立于1403年，1557年获得皇家特许状。直到1709年世界上第一部关于著作权的成文法《安妮法案》（The Statute of Anne）颁布之前，公会一直垄断着英国的出版业并负责制定和执行版权条例。所有要印刷出版的书籍都要向这个公会登记，并交由公会成员（印刷商、装订商、书商、文具商）发行，其主要目的就是借机对出版物内容进行审查，遏制违反宗教教义或政治立场不同的出版物出版发行。现在的公会只负责举办一些礼仪和典礼活动，并致力于向教育慈善事业募捐。其会员都来自图书出版业或与之相关的行业，包括印刷、造纸、包装、广告、设计、摄影、影视制作以及图书、期刊、报纸和电子出版物的出版与制造行业。　　3.Star Chamber（星室法庭）：15至17世纪时英国的最高司法机构，1487年由英王亨利七世创设，因该法庭设立在威斯敏斯特王宫中一座屋顶饰有星形图案的大厅中，故名。当时专门用来惩治不效忠国王甚至阴谋叛乱的贵族。成员由枢密院官员、主教和高级法官组成，直接受国王操纵。后其职权范围不断扩大，刑罚手段非常残酷。革命前它成为专制王权用来迫害清教徒的工具。英国资产阶级革命爆发后，1641年7月5日，长期国会通过决议撤销了这一反动机构。　　4.Puritans（清教徒）：是指要求清除英国国教中天主教残余的改革派。自16世纪上半叶开始的宗教改革运动席卷了整个欧洲大地，德国的马丁·路德、法国的加尔文成为改革后基督教新教的领袖。在当时的英国，由于英国国教的专横，宗教改革姗姗来迟，但英国教徒们还是受到了来自加尔文教义的影响，他们认为《圣经》才是唯一最高权威，任何教会或个人都不能成为传统权威的解释者和维护者。历史上，将英国新教徒中那些信奉加尔文教义、不满英国国教教义的人称为清教徒。而由于英国的宗教迫害，大部分清教徒都逃亡到了美国，所以人们说起清教徒，一般指的就是美国的清教徒。Puritan一词于16世纪60年代开始使用，源于拉丁文的Purus，意为清洁。清教徒并不是一种派别，而是一种态度，一种倾向，一种价值观，它是对信徒群体的一种统称。清教徒是最为虔敬、生活最为圣洁的新教徒，他们认为“人人皆祭司，人人有召唤”。认为每个个体可以直接与上帝交流，反对神甫集团的专横、腐败和繁文缛节、形式主义。他们主张简单、实在、上帝面前人人平等的信徒生活。　　……
