　　Rivers in some of the world's most populated ar-eas are losing water， many because of climate change，researchers reported. Affected rivers include the Gan-ges in India， the Niger in West Africa， and the Colo-rado in the southwestern United States. When addedto the influences from damming， irrigation and otherwater use， these changes could add up to a threat tofuture supplies of food and water， the researchers re-ported in a magazine.　　"Reduced run-off （地表径流） is increasing thepressure on freshwater（淡水的） resources in much ofthe world， especially with more need for water aspopulation increases，" Aiguo Dai， who led the study，said in a statement. "Fresh water being an importantresource， the reduced runoff is a great concern. "　　Researchers looked at records of river flow in925 big rivers from 1948 to 2004， finding big changesin about a third of the world's largest rivers. Riverswith decreased flow numbered more than those withincreased flow by 2. 5 to 1， they said. For instance，526 cubic kilometers of water flows out of the Missis-sippi River each year. The Columbia River lost about14 percent of its volume from 1948 to 2004， largelybecause of reduced rainfall and higher water usage inthe West. 　　……?
