前言

随着2l世纪全球化时代的到来,中国经济兴旺发达,教育事业蓬勃发展,尤其是终身学习的观念已经深入人心,英语课程教学已经成为我国各种学历与非学历教育的一个不可或缺的部分,英语学习也已成为我国当代公民提高自身素质和职业竞争优势的重要途径。因此,为了给广大的英语学习者,特别是正在接受成人教育的莘莘学子们,提供一个英语学习过程中的成功伴侣,我们经过对当前中国各个层次英语教学对象、教学目标、教学环境的调研,根据“江苏省成人高等教育非英语专业专科英语课程考试大纲(试行)”,创新性地编写了这套体现时代真实性、趣味性、前瞻性的英语教材。显然,充分满足成人英语学习者及教育者的需求既是我们编写这套教材的出发点也是终结点;国内外英语教学相关的语言学及应用语言学领域最新研究成果是我们编写这套教材的科学依据;重视以学生为中心、教师为主导的外语学习过程是我们编写这套教材的关键;创建一个英语输入与输出循环实践体系,即听、说、读、写、译立体化的英语使用环境是我们编写这套教材的愿望;引领学生在使用英语过程中成功有效地提高其语言流利度、准确度、复杂度是我们编写这套教材的宗旨;激发我们的学生在英语学习的过程中找回自信、享受快乐、磨练意志、获得成功是我们编写这套教材的理想。同时,我们也希望广大的成人英语学习者在这套教材的鼎力帮助下,有效地提高听力理解、词语用法与语法结构、阅读理解、完型填空、英译汉、汉译英、写作等方面的考试成绩。本套教材框架和内容设计如下:全套教材共分3册,每册配有相应的教师参考书,并附赠听力光盘。每册分12个单元。每单元设一个主题(Theme),即以主课文(Text A)的主题为中心,其他副课文(Text B)、补充阅读、听说等内容的话题都与主题密切相关,以便学生充分利用主课文中已学过的语言素材进行听说训练,提高其语言运用能力。每个单元含有阅读技巧介绍,全套内容循序渐进,难度逐渐加大,所涉及的示例及练习也主要取材于单元课文本身;每单元配有语法介绍,内容由浅人深,重视基础训练;每单元还系统地设计了写作策略培训,从构句认知,到句子组合连接、段落构建及应用写作,着眼于扎实的基础性写作训练。

But it changed my life.When my friend and I started Microsoft 30 years ago, we imagined a computer onevery desk and in every home. It was a time when most computers were the size offridges. But we believed that personal computers would change the world. And theyhave.I believe that computers are the most wonderful tool we can use to feed ourcuriosity and help us solve problems that even the most clever people couldn't solve ontheir own.Computers have completely changed how we learn, giving kids everywhere awindow into all of the world's knowledge. They're helping us to stay close.I believe that my own good luck brings with it the responsibility to give back to theworld. My wife and I are devoted to improving health and education in a way that canhelp as many people as possible.I believe that progress on even the world's toughest problems is possible——and it'shappening every day. We're seeing new drugs for deadly diseases, new medical equip-ment, and new attention paid to the health problems in the developing world.I'm excited by the bright future I see for medicine, for education and, of course,for technology.
