章节摘录

版权页:插图:In the opening part three sentences are preferred to introduce the subject matter, main idea or personal opinion in a direct, brief and obvious way. In the main part of an essay, six sentencescontribute to expand, elaborate or enhance the essay from 3 dimensions or aspects. In the concluding paragraph, three sentences function to further summarize, restatement or reemphasize what has been written. As an original or creative idea to some degree, we name this pattern of textual organization as a model of 3+6+3, which should help the students to improve their writing in their daily practice, and also on various tests. In the following, four popularpatterns are introduced in essay writing.Universally, narrative pattern involves six elements: orientation as the presentation of time, place and participants; complicating events including opening, development, climax and ending of a narrative event; evaluation, resolution and coda as an integral part of making comments;a bstraction as a summary of the narrative content; raising solutions, and associating the narrativeevent with the real world. Consequently, argumentative, evaluative, persuasive and instructivetexts are embedded in narrative pattern. Read the two condensed essays and analyze how the model is used.
