《中学生英语阅读技巧与提高》是从美国Teacher created Materials公司引进的一套英语阅读丛书。与众不同的是，该套丛书着重通过各种不同题材、生动有趣的阅读材料总结出一系列行之有效的英语阅读技巧，再通过精心安排的练习把这些技巧运用于阅读实践中。    在出版过程中，我们还邀请了国内一线有经验的教师对原版书进行了改编，增加了一些词汇题，并对一些阅读理解题进行了改编，这样既使该丛书保留了原有的写作意图，又使之更适合于中国的实际情况。词汇题使学生在阅读的同时不仅能获得一些阅读技巧，还能不断巩固、扩展词汇。该丛书的选文语言地道、题材广泛、时尚新颖，阅读技巧的阐释简洁明了。本丛书每册包括32个单元，练习题型丰富多样，书后还附有复习部分并配有详细的参考答案，既可以供学生自学，也可以作为学校的辅助阅读教材。    本丛书每册各单元分三个部分——Before Reading，During Reading和After Reading：    ●Before Reading包含两个读前思考问题，让学生在阅读材料前进行自我思考。还包含阅读文章以及对难词、生词的双语解释，并配有音标。    ●During Reading主要包括在原版书基础上改编的各种丰富多样的阅读理解题，包括选择题、是非题等，难度逐级递增，帮助学生加深对文章的理解。    此外，在During Reading部分中还配有针对文章阅读策略的双语说明和解释，这也是本丛书的一大特色所在，它旨在让学生在阅读文章的同时学习有关阅读的各种技巧和策略，并通过一系列练习将这些阅读技巧和策略运用到阅读实践中。    ●After Reading包含一些读后问题和由改编者精心设计的半开放或开放性练习，这些练习有助于学生在阅读过程结束时针对文章进行再思考，以加深他们对阅读文章及阅读策略的理解。    本丛书共有8册，适合我国初高中学生使用。

　　Randy woke up in a fright. He had heard a noise from outside. He wanted to tell his parents about it, but he was scared to walk down the hall to their room. He crept quietly over to his door. He peered around to look down the hall. It was dark at this time of night. The shadows from the window made the hall look extra long.　　Randy would have gone back to bed if he had not heard the noise a- gain. Bang！ Rattle！ Thump！ What could it be？ It sounded like some- body banging on pots and pans. He took a deep breath for courage and then ran down the hall. He burst into his parents room and they woke with a start.　　"Whats going on？" said Dad.　　"Why are you up？" said Mom.　　Randy told them about the noise. The three of them listened quietly. There was not a sound for several minutes. All of a sudden—— Bang！ Rattle！ Thump！　　Dad grinned a goofy grin. "I know what that is, " he said. He went out to the side of the house and returned with Maggie, their cat. "She was on the trash cans again. " Randy went back to bed. He slept well the whole night with Maggie by his side.　　Melissa loves animals. She knows all the dogs on her street. She even names the birds she sees in the trees. Her greatest wish is to have her own pet, but Dad keeps saying no.　　"Not even a goldfish？" asks Melissa.　　"No pets！ " exclaims Dad.　　Grandpa has an idea. He invites Melissa over to play with his cats.　　"Cats can be a lot of work, " says Grandpa. "I feed them and give them water. I brush them and play with them every day. "　　"I guess, " Melissa sulks. But she would not mind the extra work. She would take excellent care of a cat. She always helps Grandpa with his cats.　　Grandpa smiles. He has a surprise in the kitchen. Melissa runs to see. She finds an adorable black-and-white kitten.　　"You have a new pet？" she asks with excitement.　　"No, you do！ " exclaims Grandpa. "This kitten will live here with me and my cats, but she is yours. She is your own special pet！ "
