在英文阅读中，往往会遇到这样的情况，单词都认识，但就是文章看不懂，症结何在？现代语言教学理论认为，掌握语法是培养学生语用能力的一个重要的手段。教学实践告诉我们，在篇章中，句子是阅读的关键。文章读不懂，其实就是句子没读懂，特别是长句、难句没读懂。如果都读明白了，文章自然就理解了。而读懂句子的关键，必须要能熟练地识别和掌握各种语法规则。语法规则反映了人类逻辑思维的规律，只有充分认识语言结构规律，才能深入地理解各种语言现象，有效地提高语用能力。    基于以上想法，作者编写了《新编大学英语实用语法教程》。在编写过程中，作者力求简明扼要，并试图体现如下特点：    （1)针对性。本书不是一本面面俱到的语法书，而是在中学英语语法的基础上，按照《大学英语课程教学要求》，按删繁就简的原则，对大学英语学习阶段出现的语法现象中的重点、难点、疑点进行归纳总结，在内容与形式上与中学语法有所衔接，但在内容的广度、深度与目标上有较大的提升，旨在打好学生的语言基础，提高学生语言应用能力。    （2)实用性。本书使用的是传统、规范的语法术语，阐述力求通俗易懂，分析解释力求切中要害。书中例句取材广泛，丰富多样，既归纳了典型的语法现象，又扩大了词汇量和知识视野。书中同时列举了中国学生学习英语常见的典型错误，能帮助学生通过对比掌握正确的语言规律。    全书共二十二章，各章后均配有练习，学生可结合教学自我检查学习效果。书后有附录，包括构词法、常用不规则动词表以及《大学英语课程教学要求》中所列大学英语1～6级常用词组表三项。本书既是教材，也可作工具书使用，既适用于大学英语学习的学生，也是各类中高级英语水平学习者的良师益友。
