　　商务英语证书(BEC)考试是由剑桥大学考试委员会与教育部考试中心联合推出的一项权威性的考试，该证书在英国、英联邦各国及欧洲大多数国家的商业企业部门获得认可，并且能作为考生英语能力的证明。
　　商务英语证书(BEC)考试是在被认可的BEC考试中心举行，每年能在6个固定的日期举行，在中国每年举行两次。这些考试的主要对象是那些希望获得相关的英语语言证书的学习者，考试标准为商务英语课程提供了理想的重点。
　　商务英语证书测试的是以工作场合为背景的英语语言，而不是商务知识。商务英语证书(BEC)考试分三个级别，初级(BEC
Preliminary)针对大学英语二级或高中以上水平的学生，中级(BEC’Vantage)则主要适合通过了大学英语四、六级的学生，同时也适合于从事国际商务的专业人士和公司的职员。商务英语高级(BEC
Higher)由于对英语水平及商务知识都有较高的要求，证书含金量高，目前参加该级别考试的人数呈上升的趋势。

　　A lot of people think the telephone is essential.But I think it is a pest and a timewaster. Very often yu find it impossible to escape from some idle chatter-box or fromsomebody who wants something for nothing.If you have a telephone in your own house,you will admit that it tends to ring when you least want it to ring: when you are asleep,or in the middle of a meal or a conversation, or when you are just going out, or when youare in your bath.Are you strong-minded enough to ignore it, to say to yourself,"Ah,well, it will all be the same in a hundred years time. " You are not. You think there maybe some important news or messages for you.I can assure you that if a message is reallyimportant it will reach you sooner or later.Have you ever rushed dripping from the bath,or chewing from the table, or pushed from the bed, only to be told that you are a wrongnumber？　　But you will say, you need not have your name printed in the telephone book, andyou can have a telephone which is only usable for outgoing calls.Besides, you will say,isnt it important to have a telephone in case of sudden emergency——illness, accident, orfire？ Of course, you are right. But here in a thickly populated country like England, oneis seldom far from a telephone in case of dreadful necessity.　　I think perhaps Id better try to justify myself by trying to prove that what I like isgood.I admit that in different circumstances, if I were a tycoon, for instance, or bed-ridden I might find a telephone essential.But then if I were a taxi-driver I should find acar essential.Let me put it another way. there are two things for which the English seemto show particular interest: one is mechanical invention, the other is literature.My ownbusiness happens to be with the use of words, but I see I must now stop using them. ForI have just been handed a slip of paper to say that somebody is waiting to speak to me onthe telephone.I think I had better answer it.After all, one never knows, it may besomething important.
