　　1.因特网的主要用途　　因特网是一个通过很多网络连接世界上数以亿计用户的全球计算机网络，这些网络使用简单的标准通用地址系统和称为TCP/IP（传送控制协议／网络协议）的通信协议。这些网络包括联邦网络、地区网、教育网以及一些外国网络。不同网络之间通过网关连接到一起，这些网关将电子数据传送到世界各地。　　连接到因特网上的绝大多数都是教育与科研网。最近很多商家和消费者已经意识到因特网的巨大潜力。今天世界各地的人们和商家都可以在因特网上搜索信息、通信、进行全球范围的商业活动，也可以获取各种服务和在线资源。　　因特网最主要的用途就是收发电子邮件（通常称为E-mail）。数以亿计的人们在使用因特网提供的收发电子邮件的功能。然而，电子邮件只是因特网提供的众多服务中的一种。因特网还提供诸如聊天室、WWW、电子邮件及邮件列表、公告板与新闻组、远程计算机访问（Telnet）以及文件传送（使用FTP，即文件传送协议）等服务。　　用户可以参加网络上数以千计的任何一个讨论组，从庞大的图书库中查找某一特定信息，或者向计算机传送各种文件，还能浏览WWW上的多媒体服务。就在最近几年，因特网上的资源和服务以指数规律增长，由于更多的商业用户和消费者决定涉足因特网，这种快速增长势头将会继续持续下去。　　2.因特网是如何工作的？　　当在因特网上发送一条信息时，它被分解为很多称之为包的小块，它们在发送者的计算机和接收者的计算机之间的不同路线上传送。　　数据。　　……
