本书根据现行《考试大纲》及《课程标准》的要求，针对高二年级的学生英语水平，精选85篇美文，内容从学习心得到科普知识，从生活哲思到幽默故事，从社会焦点到科技前沿……，旨在提高学生英语阅读水平的同时，让其能够更真实地走近英美文化，拓展知识面。    全书共分17单元，每单元又分为5个独立的篇章，各篇文章重点培养学生在阅读理解能力与语言、语法上相融合的程序，体现以阅读为线索，通过阅读理解英语、掌握英语的目的。为此每篇文章后分别设计了三个小栏目：    1.美文导读：每篇文章后或综合概括文章或画点点睛妙评，让读者在阅读过后的紧张状态中得以放松心情、轻松把握文章主旨。    2.美文点睛：针对文章的难易程序对其出现的单词给予注解，扩充词汇量，并把文中有价值的语言、语法信息提炼总结，形成系统知识框架。    3.样题解的：针对每篇文章的答案给予详细分析，告诉读者选什么，为什么选及怎样选。
