　　“跨文化翻译”（translating across cultures）和“文化精通性”（cultural proficiency）是当今翻译研究的热门话题。本书试图使关于文化的讨论进入一个更严密、更具有连贯性的逻辑轨道，并提供一个为笔译、口译者及其他文化中介者传授文化的模式。作为时下解读文化的一个入门，本书旨在提高文化中介者在构建、理解及翻译文化现实过程中的文化自觉性。作者认为，文化语境是一个框架，我们在其中感知并理解外在的文化意象或现实。作者的研究方法是跨学科的，借鉴了人类学、元模式理论、社会语言学、言语行为理论、关联理论、功能语法理论等。　　全书以大量精当的实例和对权威译文的深入浅出的分析来阐明文化翻译中潜在的问题以及相应的策略，指导笔译、口译者在跨文化交流中发挥更积极主动的作用，适用于所有生活或工作于不同文化之中，并且希望了解更多与自身经历相关的跨文化交流的成功或失败之处的有志者。

作者简介

　　大卫·卡坦，意大利的里雅斯特大学（University of Trieste）翻译学副教授，在该大学的现代语言翻译高级学院开设跨文化交流和翻译的课程。著述甚广，涉及翻译、语言、文化等领域，与人合编《柯林斯意英双语词典》，并翻译了大量保险、医药方面的文献以及儿童诗歌集。
